     NARDIR

A land steeped in mythos and celestial reverence, Nardir stands as a beacon of hope in the ever-shifting Dire Straits. Founded on the principles of honor and compassion, the members of Nardir can be viewed as one giant family. Fiercely protective of our own and the well-being of our family's lands, we seek only to live in peace beneath the comforting light of our Lunar Mother.

We of Nardir respect nature and it's power, and the grand energies of the many wonders the world provides. From the different uses of moon-charged crystals to the healing rays of the stars, Nardir's culture spans across many different, benevolently occult practices, a mixing pot if you will of ancient earth magic and lore. As peaceful as we strive to be, the Nardiri are unafraid to protect our home, family, and allies with fang and claw; we will not shrink away when beings of darkness rear their ugly heads.

Innovative, open-minded, and built upon strong principles, Nardir welcomes all beings with light in their hearts into our mystical mountain valley sanctuary.

Nardiri Laws & Regulations.

     NARDIR LAWS

Consent In Nardir - We are a semi-consent pack, which means that players need your consent to kill your character, but don't need explicit consent to maim or otherwise harm your character in a non-lethal way. This was discussed and decided among the pack in this thread.

Post Content - Nardir is a very accepting, very welcoming and open-minded pack as a whole, both OOCly and ICly. As such, we will not tolerate homophobia, transphobia, or any exclusion of someone based on factors like sex, gender, preference, etc. Posts containing references to rape, sex, abuse, gore, or anything in that area should either be spoilered or have a TW in the title/above the main body of the thread content. In the past we have had threads pop up from time to time bordering on the gross side of things, and that is not acceptable. Posts with content of that ilk (misgendering a character without consent from the player, overly sexual threads or mentions of explicitly sexual things in threads, etc.) will be dealt with. Nardir is a PG-13 area. If you're iffy on whether or not something is over the line, or have concerns about something that is, don't hesitate to PM an alpha for our feedback. We'd love to help!

Keep OOC and IC separate - This is a given. Don't bring your out-of-character problems with people into your roleplay threads. If we suspect you of this or if it's blatantly obvious, the appropriate action will be taken. As well, if you feel as though you're being targeted due to someone dragging OOC into IC, don't hesitate to PM an alpha and let us know.

Don't beg for ranks - If you're interested in a rank and there's no recruitment thread, PM the rank leader or an alpha asking about getting your character put in to training for that rank -- that is acceptable. Begging/badgering rank leaders/alphas repeatedly asking for promotions or for ranks is not, and could get you/your character banned from the pack in serious enough cases.

Don't leave without permission - If you intend to leave the packlands (temporarily or otherwise) you must inform the alphas of your intentions. We don't want to keep anyone within the pack if that isn't what they want; that is, if your character wants to leave, they're not going to be attacked or killed. There is no law against leaving Nardir, but if you do so without the express consent of the alphas, you will be branded a traitor, and will not be allowed back into the pack without a public trial. Anyone wishing to simply visit the freelands outside of Nardir can ask for permission to do so, but without a proper reason (gathering different resources, an alliance or training expedition, etc.) you may be denied.

Don't produce a litter without permission - Chances are if you ask to have a litter, we'll allow it, circumstances permitted. Having children without permission will lead to the litter being removed from their parents and raised by the alphas, with only scarce visits allowed by the parents. The offending pair will never be able to gain rank or produce a legal litter, and will be general laborers for the rest of their days unless otherwise decided. Should the transgression become aggravated in any way, it is possible that the parents will be cast out of Nardir.

On Acceptances & Border Threads - The Jovian Winds are Nardir's border guards, and as such, acceptances and border threads should be left to them. This rule is in place to ensure that Jovian Winds can actually do their jobs, instead of other ranks snatching up acceptance threads instead. If an acceptance thread goes longer than a week without a response from a Jovian Wind, unless otherwise stated (prps, things like things like that), that thread is then free to be taken by anyone in the Zenith Point/Summit. Jovian Winds can call for other members to join a border thread at their own discretion (such as a Jovian calling for the alphas due to visiting dignitaries, or for aid due to hostile outsiders).

On Plots - Please keep the alphas informed of major plots that are happening in Nardir. It's courteous and polite, and we don't need every single detail, but a "hey, this is happening" PM would be very appreciated.

Nardir & Prisoners

Nardir, being the benevolent society it is, does not often have a very large amount of prisoners in its keep. Still, for those few rare times when we do have prisoners, these rules should be applied. We are not a savage people -- prisoners here are hardly prisoners at all, save for a few regulations. We aren't here to try and beat anyone down; Nardir's goal with its prisoners is to do the best we can to wipe off the dark smudges of the prisoners' pasts, to try and help them recover and heal.

Do not go near the borders - Prisoners are usually confined to a central area in the territory, but sometimes depending on the severity/reason behind their imprisonment, they may be allowed to roam the packlands. If so, the prisoner is forbidden to go near the borders; Jovian Winds or Mantles who find prisoners near the borders are to subdue them and take them to the central area for closer confinement.

Do not attack anyone - If you're being held in Nardir forcibly, it's a very bad idea to attack anyone, Nardiri or not. If, for some reason a prisoner makes it to the borders and attacks someone who is seeking acceptance, a passerby, visiting ambassador, etc. the fault is on Nardir, and we won't stand for an injustice like that. Prisoners here are not treated badly enough for them to use violence, and therefor any such act will be treated as malevolent and will be punished; trials can be held in the event that a prisoner sees their actions as justified.

Everything within this post is subject to change and each situation will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Worship and Festivities
« Reply #2 on: November 03, 2013, 10:55:50 AM »

Moon Worship & You

Nardir's central religion is that of Moon Worship; we see the moon as a celestial Goddess, known as Mother Moon, the Lunar Goddess, the Lunar Mother, and the Night Mother. She is a benevolent Goddess that protects her children from the evils that lurk in the night. It's believed that when an honored Nardiri passes away, they are reborn as a Starchild of the Night Mother.

It isn't believed that Mother Moon is all powerful or that she created the world; rather, after the Earth's creation there was but the Sun and the Earth, darkness ruling at nightfall, allowing death and plague and atrocities to roam. Mother Moon heard the cries of the poor innocents subjected to this terrible darkness, and was compelled to aid them in the only way She could. She and Her millions of Starchildren arrived at sunset, eclipsing the Sun and absorbing all of the light She could hold, and cast Her brilliance upon the land below. It is said that Her beauty and love were so powerful that She wiped out nearly all of the darkness in the world, driving what was left far back into the reaches of dark tunnels and caves. Forever more Mother Moon took it upon Herself to light the darkness, and She's been shining through the darkness ever since.

Although worship of the moon is Nardir's main religion, it is not the only religion. Nardir honors the heritages and wisdoms of many different religions. We do not tolerate bigotry and belligerence towards another over differing, or lack of, religion - all are welcome here.

Festivals & Celebrations

Moonfall Festival
The Moonfall Festival is a large celebration held to give thanks to the Mother Moon, and to celebrate the first snowfall of winter. It's considered a gift from the Lunar Goddess, fallen stardust, promising new and stronger life in the future to come. A big pack hunt is held and a feast following. There will also be minor games such as eating contests, sparring matches, crafting tables, and races. These different events will take place in different threads. During this festival, we strengthen the bonds of family among our pack members, and everyone is encouraged to mingle and interact. OOCly, this festival will take place during January of each year (if possible).

This festival is usually a Nardiri-only event, with non-Nardiri being allowed only on very rare special occasions (those betrothed to Nardiri are sometimes allowed, for example). As it's more of a family event, it's only fitting that it be a private engagement.

Moonflower Festival
Wolves gather together to celebrate the Moonflower Festival, a festival to celebrate peace, friendship and the next generation, during springtime. This festival is meant to bring the Nardiri closer to their allies, and is a public event that encourages the participation of outsiders. During this festival, there will be a large feast for allies and potential allies to bond over, a marketplace with vendors allowed from all attending packs, fun games for the youth, and much more.

As this festival happens during a new moon, when the Lunar Mother is slumbering, we light a gigantic bonfire by Lake Deephaven to light up the night and drive back the darkness, just as she did for us so long ago. We conclude the night by telling stories by the bonfire, hopefully in the company of new friends and allies.

Summer's End Harvest
As summer draws to a close, Nardir celebrates with a great harvest. Nardiri are grouped up and sent on different missions, some outside of the packlands, with the sole purpose of gathering all the resources they can. Herbs and medicine, important crafting supplies such as skins and thread, meat to cure and store, and various other items to be listed in detail during the festival. This festival lasts for an IC week.

This preparation for winter is shared with our allies in the form of assorted goods, from skins to dyes to medicines and more plentiful items, taken to our allies on sleds at the end of our harvest as a sign of loyalty and friendship.

Map & Territory

     THE MOTHERLAND

! large image !

Nardir is a beautiful territory, a lush, wide mountain-valley with a variety of wondrous sights to see. For the most part, Nardir is surrounded by massive snow-capped mountains which are lined with a thick coniferous forest. Called Duskwood because of the lack of light that filters through the thick forest, this area is full of moss, mushrooms, thick pine, spruce and fir trees that coat the ground in fragrant needles. Most of the tree sap that Nardir uses is gathered from Duskwood.

As you get further into Nardir, Duskwood gives way to the Lunar Vale. Unlike Duskwood, the Vale is open and bright, sporting beech, ash, oak, and many birch trees. The forest floor here is coated with bluebell, lilac, amaryllis, muscari and more. As the trees begin to get thinner and thinner, the Vale leads out into the Blooming Fields. This gigantic meadow provides us with many wild herbs, and is absolutely exploding with wildlife such as prairie dogs and rabbits, as well as every kind of flower you could possibly imagine.

Throughout Nardir's territory are various rivers and lakes, the biggest of which is Lake Deephaven which rests near the middle of the lands. The northern portion of Lake Deephaven is wetland, providing a healthy habitat for cranes, different species of fish, and all sorts of amphibious creatures.

A few human structure ruins lay littered throughout the territory, old stone and mud cottages, decaying stone walkways, stone fences, etc. marked by crumbling castles on the map - these structures are not actually castles. Mount Celeste rises up as the largest mountain in Nardiri territory. It has a river on either side of it, one river forking into two and rejoining once they're around the mountain's bulk. There is a large bridge made of fallen trees that allows travel over the river. The Moonroom is located inside of the mountain in a large cavern, lit up by bioluminescent fungi and glow worms.

The flag markers on the map are Jovian Wind Outposts, places along the border where Jovians can seek shelter in bad weather/if they're injured. These Outposts are stocked with dried meats, minor herbs, bandages, and clean water.

In the northeastern corner of the territory, the Halo's Garden is hidden away, and only the Halos/members of the Summit are allowed here. This is the ensure that the herbs are grown by careful hands, and not trampled or eaten by unwitting members of Nardir. The garden itself is protected by a wall of logs taller than most wolves set in a U-shape in a large clearing. It's likely that this was done by humans, and simply re-purposed by Nardir.

The northwest area of Duskwood is home to a field of poppies with a circle of jutting stones in the middle where the Nardiri bury their dead. This graveyard is a respected and solemn place, and it is frowned upon to hunt there. Nardiri often leave gifts here for the dead, such as burning incense or strips of cured meat, painted animal skulls and rocks, crystals, or flowers and herbs.

To the west of Lake Deephaven is the Apiary, a collection of bee hives where honey is gathered.

Nardir's territory is speckled with crystals growing up from the earth in various spots. The entire territory is bioluminescent -- excluding Duskwood, the dark band of thick, ominous woods that encircles the territory like an old wrought-iron gate. Some Nardiri have even taken to carving designs into the stones around Nardir, filling their work in with fungi to create glowing works of art.

Our allies, as well as a list of our enemies, can be found here. Each alliance should be listed with terms as well as a thread for proof if available, and our enemies list should include reasoning and threads for proof if applicable. Fallen allies, if they fell when we were in good relations, are offered refuge in Nardir, a new home. Sister packs are named in pink.

The Garden
A guide to all things Halo

Herbs

The first thing an apprentice learns is plants, plants, plants and even more plants. It is the basis of the Halo's job and their top most priority. Halos need to keep watch of their stock of herbs; take note where certain herbs are grown and absolutely must know what each plant can be used for.

Fauna
Harmless:
- Beavers: Bark-eating rodents, they live in colonies in pools of water. You may be able to find some around the fishing patches and swimming reserves, but they tend to shy away from wolves, as we can prey on them.

- Deer: Deer seem to be everywhere, especially since we border the edge of the marshlands. Be careful not to scare them away from the territory, they are good for feasts.

- Ducks: Ducks and birds like them are abundant in the marshes. They tend to stay near the edges of the water and near our swimming reserve and fishing patches.

- Otters: Otters are fish-eating creatures who like to swim in our swimming reserve and the rapids.

- Rabbits: These fast-breeding lagomorphs are a sustainable food source, just don't kill them if you aren't going to eat them immediately or give them to pack members to eat. They have keen ears and live in underground hutches. Don't dig the hutches up, either, they may have litters and we don't want to kill them off.

- Turtles: Turtles and tortoises both live near us and roam both in and out of our territory. Some might be snapping turtles, whose bites can break bone if you get too close.

Potentially Dangerous
- Raccoons: The raccoon is a nocturnal animal that is both omnivorous and opportunistic. They can steal and kill young pups or even attack lone juveniles, and might carry rabies that can easily wipe out an entire pack.

- Snakes: All sorts of snakes live in the marshlands. They range from deadly to harmless garden snakes. If you don't know that one is harmless, avoid it. We kill dangerous ones that we find near our fishing spots or swimming reserve, to keep them as safe for our pack as possible.

Dangerous
- Alligators: Crocodiles and Alligators of all types can be dangerous to Nardiri. They may live in the water along the banks as well as the deeper water areas, such as Crocodile Creek.
