She stepped onto the sandy ground that was to be the battleground to decide who would claim ownership over two miserable islands.  For Mercury it was a defining moment, would she succeed where she had previously failed?  She shook her head, not allowing those kind of thoughts to enter her mind.  Taking a deep breath, she surveyed her surroundings.  The beach and shoreline was mostly open ground, with a few high stones here and there.  The dark treeline was lined with shrubbery and vines, giving it an unwelcome appearance.  She looked back towards it, knowing that within those shadows she would someday carve out a new existence. But for no her focus had to be on the present, not the ghosts of the past, not the what-ifs of the future.

The air was still hot and muggy, despite the fact that it was already evening.  Clouds rolled overhead, cutting off more of the descending sunlight.  A rumble overhead told her the threat of rain was also a factor, and she shuttered to think of the already damp conditions getting even worse.  Nardir had had it's rainstorms, but had lacked the humidity of this place.  She didn't like it here all that much, but understood that they needed to reestablish themselves before going home to conquer their kingdom.  So here she was, in the sand and the muggy air, waiting for her opponent.  What she was sure of was that there was too much riding on this for her to fail.  She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, calming herself before the storm to come.

Zaeha's paws hardly touched the ground as she darted throughout the warm forest, she blinked her eyes. My first fight. She thought, pondering with the idea. She had thought of different attack strategies, but had crossed them off the list, thinking she wouldn't know the other wolf's moves. She looked up at the bright sun, clouds rolling in. She sighed. A good old fight in the rain, lovely. The scent of wolf danced in the air, into her nose.
Here it was. Where her pack's first life would be created, or lost.

Zaeha saw the female, they were about the same size, same in posture and strength. Their markings were different, but black fur rippled against their coat. She looked at the wolf, hesitating to attack. She wanted to say something, but no words came out. Finally she breathed them.
"Let the best wolf win".

Her opponent had arrived, and Mercury immediately turned to face her.  The Dark Queen noticed the hesitation, and before the words left her opponent's lips she was already in a full out sprint that would cause her to charge her opponent.  Her goal here was a simple knockdown.  Using her momentum, Mercury aimed to slam into the other female.  If she was successful she intended to knock her over and show who was more dominant.  As always, Merc's goal was not to kill her challenger, but instead to simply defeat her.

The rain the clouds had promised had arrived, and the sand was becoming even more saturated.  Used to rain from her life in Nardir, Merc was overall unperturbed by the additional moisture and looser footing.  As pockets of water pooled and caused hidden sinkholes in the sand, Merc adjusted her stride to accommodate the new surroundings.  While she had little experience with sand, the riverbanks of Nardir used to flood, causing a mire that could easily slow down anyone who didn't know how to navigate them.  The sunlight had changed from a hazy yellow to a more vibrant orange, reflecting off of the mists to make the edges of the beach blur.  The trees, in stark contrast, stood out as silhouetted sentries against the skyline, and caused an alternating pattern of light and dark over the fighting arena.

Should she be unsuccessful in her charge, such as Zaeha dodging and causing her to run past, Merc would immediately about-face and attempt a grab.  The ideal location would be a limb, either forward or hind, that she could use as leverage against the other she-wolf.  Again, damage was not the point of this attack, but simply to gain some sort of physical advantage.  Mercury didn't think about strategies, didn't plan or spend her energy on what-ifs.  Her problem in her last fight had been that she spent too much time trying to plan and not enough time reacting.  Not this time.

The sun continued it's now rather rapid decent, and the difference between shadow and light was becoming more prominent.  Merc's eyes adjusted, and she took care to keep her head level with the base of the trees when she was moving in the direction of the sun.  It wouldn't do to be blinded, even for so short of a time as a blink, and give her opponent any kind of advantage.  She had to be spot on her game if she was going to win.  And she intended to win.

While both fighters were inexperienced Merc had a slight advantage that she had been in a fight before.  So she knew this time there would be no letting up.  Should both her attacks miss she would finally go for a grab to the throat.  Not only would this move give her an obvious advantage against her opponent, but she could even possibly cut off Zaeha's airway for a time, causing the other female to pass out, earning Merc a K.O victory.  Since victory was entirely the goal, she wasn't holding anything back.

Zaeha was slammed into, using her dodges when she needed them dearly. She was knocked onto the ground, dazzed. But she wouldn't give up that easily. She looked up at the other female and snapped at her, rolling over a little so she wasn't straight under her. She decided to lung for the throat, or maybe the legs. She pondered with the thought, eyeing the female. What to do? The rain drizzled lightly and she looked at the other wolf's stomach. She kept her eyes on it, but her mind went for the legs. She lunged with her jaws at it, hoping she'd be able to clasp and twist.

If she'd be able to get it, twisting the leg would give her an advantage. Limping would be a huge throw back for the other wolf, and would make it easier to win. Of course, she wasn't using her whole strength to aim on weakening the other wolf. She needed to dodge, attack, and take her down. Zaeha was smaller, but speedier with slightly more stamina. Dodging would be simply, but her strength wasn't too good with fights.

a few concerns were brought up over your post, aspen.

Zaeha was slammed into, using her dodges when she needed them dearly. She was knocked onto the ground, dazzed. But she wouldn't give up that easily. She got up on her paws, there were two of her opponents.

mercury's attack hit, which would mean that mercury would still be standing over zaeha, as it doesn't say that mercury would move away from zaeha after her tackle attack hit. she'd have to crawl out from under mercury to get away.

When she had the paw in her jaws, she twisted it as far as possibly.
Zaeha didn't intend this to break the wolf's leg, but that would be nice. Spraining or injuring it would.

going for the paw is fine, as it's an attempt. however, you can't automatically say an attack hit without a response from the other fighter -- that's god-modding. you can attempt to get the paw and twist it as far as possible, but auto-hits aren't allowed.

once you fix these, the fight may continue~

I've noticed that Aspen has indeed edited, resolving the previous issues mentioned by Hayley. However I must ask Aspen to please clarify her post. It's simply too vague for me to be able to define how many attacks, the order they're in, ect. If you could break it down for us, whether it's a brief OOC explaination, that would be appreciated. I'm just totally lost by that post.

(( Ahh sorry.
First she was knocked down by Mercury, and Merc is standing over her.
Zaeha rolled over to the side, so she wasn't exactly under Merc.
Zaeha just lunged for Mercury's paw. ))

Acknowledged, so only one attack was attempted in that post. Well that's all the concerns I have on my end and, I'm pretty sure, the edit you made fixes the problems Hayley had pointed out. So unless anyone else has other concerns then this can continue.

EDIT: Also a reminder, since I'm aware Aspen had had a 2 paragraph length post before she edited, that official marshland fight posts need to be a minimum of 2 paragraphs. This is so opponents have something to respond to. Details are your friend when needing to beef up a post.

((I'm assuming this means I can continue now))

She was successful in her slam, and now the other female was underneath her, in the submissive position.  Mercury's tail arched high and she snarled, expressing the fact that she was more dominant than the other female, but instead of standing down Zaeha decided to grab for her paw.  Since she was still underneath Mercury, a simple lift of the foot was enough to keep snapping jaws from finding their mark, to which Mercury responded by attempting to slam her paw into the other female's windpipe.  If this was successful, she would be able to choke the other female.  Simultaneously she sat down, and by their positions, she would sit down onto Zaeha's lower half since she was underneath Mercury.  Doing this would help to restrict the other female's movements, and make it easier to keep her pinned.

Keeping her head high and using her weight to keep her opponent down, Mercury would use her front paws to attack for now.  In addition to trying to step down on Zaeha's windpipe with her dodging foreleg, she used the other to swat and box at the female's face and head.  While a wolf's claws weren't as sharp as a cat's, they could still damage an eye if jabbed in hard enough, and Mercury figured losing an eye would probably be enough of an incentive for Zaeha to give up and call it quits.  If she missed the eye, well, logic dictated that at least some of her blows would hit the other female in the head, which was hopefully enough to daze her further.  She'd already gotten a hard knock from Merc's tackle.

One paw would continue batting back and forth in bitch-slap style, attempting a flurry of blows to Zaeha's head and face, and the other would either remain on Zaeha's throat (if her initial "punch" hit) or attempt the same move again, hoping to meet with better success on the second attempt.  From her position Merc was had Zaeha in a pretty compromising position, and without any way to shove Mercury off (since her legs would be either to the side or upwards from the tackle) she would be pretty stuck.  Agility meant nothing when you couldn't even stand up.

So for now Merc would attempt to keep Zaeha pinned and alternate between throat and eyes should her attacks miss.  If she was successful in her choke, she would shift her weight off of her hindquarters and onto the choking paw, making it even harder for the smaller female to breathe.  She hoped this would cause Zaeha to tap out, and only at that time would she let up on the pressure.  Merc didn't want to kill the other female, only make her quit, but being unconscious would mean a victory, and that was good enough for Merc.  The successful blow or blows to Zaeha's head would be hard enough to rattle her senses, and while one would be enough, several would be an onslaught that could, if continued, end up with severe damage.  Either way, Merc would end this, and end it quickly.

The light rain turned the sandy-dirt into mud, but Merc could care less about getting dirty at this point.  The sun highlighted the edges of the trees, reflecting off of the rain and mist in a dazzle of colors.  Strange weather, that could be rain and sunshine at the same time, but it was quite possible, and Mercury was entirely too focused on her opponent to care about the marvels of the weather.  She'd admire the scenery after she'd won, after her family had a home, and after Nardir was stable again.  But right now, the female underneath her was in the way of all that, and that would not do.

Zaeha's fur was thick, so it restricted the choking a little but her air was cut off just a little, she had enough room to breath hardly. When her attack failed she looked at the other female with eyes filled with sorrow, fake eyes filled with sorrow. Her ears perked as she was suddenly slapped. Slapped? What the heck was this? A wheezy snarl rippled from her throat and the sloshy dirt matted her fur with who knew what? She lunged up at the other female's throat, pushing her windpipe down more. It choked her, but it was only for a mere second. If she was successful in grabbing the other's neck, she'd flip her over (or try to, anyway) and get onto her paws. Since strength wasn't her strong point, she might even keep her jaws clasped on until the other wolf fell or gave up, moving off her. She felt unsafe.

Zaeha's tactic was mainly going for the vulnerable parts, if she could get the wolf to show her stomach she'd easily win. Legs would give her an advantage, and the neck would be gold. She was fast like a viper, and dodging was hard if you were struck, but it wasn't impossible. She wasn't a strength wolf, but with help a deer could be taken down. She kept her eyes locked on the stronger female as she reached up like a cheetah to it's prey to grasp the neck.

After reviewing the round of posts, I have a few concerns that I need fixed.
First things first, there are a few of Mercury's attacks that weren't acknowledged that need to be;

Mercury Attack 3: Simultaneously she sat down, and by their positions, she would sit down onto Zaeha's lower half since she was underneath Mercury.
^I'm not sure, nor do I want to assume, that this hit so I need clarification on that. If it did hit then it needs to be acknowledged, if it was dodged then there needs to be an explaination as to how it was dodged.

Mercury Attack 4: In addition to trying to step down on Zaeha's windpipe with her dodging foreleg, she used the other to swat and box at the female's face and head.  While a wolf's claws weren't as sharp as a cat's, they could still damage an eye if jabbed in hard enough,
^I understood that the 'bitch slap' from Mercury was a hit, however the first attempt she went for was the eyes. If this was dodged then I need an explaination as to how, since in your post it doesn't say she moved, thus avoiding the claw to the eye.

Also, I have a problem with Zaeha's attempts. If Mercury is choking Zaeha, which you've stated was successful, then I don't see how Zaeha could reach up to even attempt to go for the neck without doing damage to herself. Given the fact that Mercury is applying pressure, and then the attempt to attack the neck is applying more pressure, then it'd make more sense that it's doing more damage then just "choke her for a mere second".

In fact, even if Zaeha somehow got a hold of Mercury's neck, the fact that she's 'holding on until Mercry got off her' would definately apply more pressure and choking then mere seconds. So.. I'm not quite sure how your attack is possible? Clarification/explaination is much needed

After discussing matters with my fellow MOs, we've decided to call the match and declare Nardir the winner of Round 1 for the Unclaimed Land #1. The reason for doing so is because we believe that Aspen has the idea of RP fighting but needs further experience before being able to challenge in the Marshlands. Therefore we encourage her to practice her fighting in the Training Grounds and come back when she feels she is better prepared to try again.

In regards to Unclaimed Land #1, it is still open for one more claim until June 2nd. If no one has laid claim on the territory by then it will go to Nardir by default. That is all.
