welcome to notre dame [prp lilith]

Exploring was a fun but dangerous thing in Alteron. There were things they had never seen before, buildings and waterfalls. Their travels had taken them far and wide but they hadn’t had much time for sightseeing. They still didn’t, but… they could take a break.

They could forgive them that, right?

Pale paws carried them through the growth, nose to the ground and taking in all the scents of the pack. There was something hot, something thriving just beneath the earth and they followed along, trailing across wood and grass, sand and rocks. Despite their youth their travels had made their paws tough, and despite their deafness they weren’t completely handicapped in these woods, not with their eyes and nose working overtime to compensate.

So when the harsh bundle of trees came into view, Seir had an inkling that it was a place they were not welcome. They slowed down, eyes flicking this way and that, before approaching a bit more slowly. They didn’t recognize the scent, but they’d caught it around the territory. Something strong and dark, roasted charcoal in the flames. They paused again, one paw in the air mid-step.

Another scent, and red eyes only caught the hint of a mountain of stone between the trees before they turned to whoever approached them. They didn’t know if they should speak - if it was a smart idea or a dumb idea. They didn’t know if this person was a friend or a foe, enshrouded in that other scent.

After a moment they dipped their head in something like a greeting, stilted and awkward, their stare never wavering from the figure before them.

The children she had bore had killed her sense of duty for a long time. They were needy, loud and something to protect other than her reputation. That instinct to nurture them was far more profound than anything she had felt in her life. Afzhal had poisoned her, yet she did not fault him. His promises to get her closer to the Dragon had somewhat succeeded. She was now no longer a prison guard, but a guard for the Dragon herself. A place in her house.

And so she sat on the stairs of the cathedral, purple eyes glaring down at a ghostly audience that she could not see. The air was still and quiet, the crackle of flames in a hearth. That scent of ash and charcoal reminded her of Azuhel and those hardened eyes. Tail flicked across the pebbles as she thought of the future, what it could hold for her. What it could hold for her children. Would they grow into something useful, or would they fail and be culled from their ranks? Alteron was cruel, but they were subtle and would probably use them as fodder if anything else. Lilith tried not to think of their failures, only that they could become something more.

Movement caught her attention, watching as an unfamiliar face stopped to bow their head in greeting. Eyes squinted a moment, weighing the worth of interaction. A paw swept her emerald to hide between her toes. "And who are you?" she asked, voice smooth as silk. She had many nights of practice with her little ones. They had calmed her once uptight demeanor, which was a good thing in some ways.

In others, not.

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Oh well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip

Love is like a sin, my love,
For the ones that feel it the most

Seir see’s the moment of consideration in the lavender eyes. The debate, on what, they did not know. But when the silence began to stretch, just as they considered moving along, she spoke. It was luck they caught her words at all, the quick movements of her jaw, of her tongue. Their ears were worthless, after all, pointed like the devil’s up to the sky.

'And who are you?'

Her paws moved, swiping something out of sight. Seir did not care. What she held had little interest to them, nor were they the type of wolf to crave the belongings of others. They turned to face her more fully, tail sweeping behind them, blinking slowly.

“Seir.”

They don’t step closer, but after a moment they do sit. Properly, like their father had taught them - back straight, head up right and level, paws together, tail carefully curled around them. They might have tried to look blank, expressionless, but the young face couldn't quite hide that hint of youth, that little bit of wonder. Red eyes careful keep locked with purple, occasionally shifting to that twitch of the jaw. “Who are you?” they rumble, rasp, voice harsh winds in the arctic.

They don’t talk much. But they found their curiosity poked and prodded, enough to at least ask for her name.
