we'll carry on [becrux]
« on: August 18, 2016, 09:01:00 PM »
The sun was already starting to set, and the jovian wind had just finished going around the territory of Nardir. There wasn’t too much going on around the borders as of late. Someone from the original Nardir had joined back in their ranks, Hakan, with his child who had kind of frightened the poor boy. But surely she would come to understand the prince, and learn to accept him as he is. So far it seemed the entire pack had, at least to his knowledge. The comfort from his anxiety had made it so he could go about the borders without backing away in fear, and he found himself done with the day’s work. So he went towards the lake, to drink water and rest.

As he walked closer to the lake, he gave a huff. His paws were sore from walking, and he felt like he needed to really crack his back. When he put his front paws in the water, a sigh of relief escaped him. He could feel the water going down his throat, nice and cool. Kastra had to pause to catch his breath before pushing his muzzle back in the water, taking nice long sips. He had to force a sneeze to get water droplets out of his nostrils, awkwardly huffing all the while.

Then he looked about, and his bi-colored eyes caught sight of someone he knew, but hadn’t seen in such a long time. “Becrux?” He called out, voice cracking in the end. He hadn’t really talked to his brother in a long time, the last time being when they visited allies. But they were brothers, and surely they would still get along. The prince would make his way towards his brother, a shy smile on his face. “What’s up?” He wanted to be casual, but for some reason this all felt awkward. Weren’t siblings always suppose to be super close, and involved in the family life? Then again, their mother couldn’t really agree with that, and a lot of families seemed to be distant after a certain age.

He found himself on a deertrail towards the lake, long fronds of grass tickling his fur as he walked along. The dirt was cool beneath his paws, shaded from the beating the afternoon sun would have given it without the shade of the grass. But as the sun now settled behind the distant trees, the meadow was awash in twilight, and the lake reflected the sky's purple sunset. It was cool, and he breathed deep the evening air.

“Becrux?”

He looked round, neck craning every which way until he found the source of the voice. Finally spotting a familiar figure down by the lake, he smiled. Becrux closed the remaining distance quickly, recalling that the last time he'd seen him was their trip to Tjenu. He really ought to get out more. Or, well, he was always out, but he should spend more time with his family and packmates. "Kastra! Long time no see."

“What’s up?”

He touched his shoulder to Kastra's in an affectionate greeting. "Taking a page out of your book and patrolling the borders. Good way to gain endurance, I'm finding." He stepped into the lake, soothing his paws the way Kastra had done just before. "Plus, the mountains are a good place to look out on everything. It's nice." And ponder, in introspection. "How about you? Talk to anyone interesting?"

Even if he felt like there was some sort of barrier between them, he knew that Becrux was someone he could rely on, and could feel comfortable around. He could fight back his instincts of anxiety and reteach himself to trust his brother. Besides, it felt like that was still a strong connection; one that had dimmed, but that could grow stronger than ever before. He smiled at his brother as they both got closer. ”Kastra! Long time no see.” When Becrux touched Kastra’s shoulder, he returned the affection. Becrux was someone he could trust.

"Taking a page out of your book and patrolling the borders. Good way to gain endurance, I'm finding." He gave a small mixture of a laugh and a sigh. They both moved to putting their paws in the lake, and Kastra could feel the coolness soothing his paws. "Plus, the mountains are a good place to look out on everything. It's nice." He gave a small ‘mm-hm’ in reply. “I’m amazed I can even patrol the border, it can be so much.” With all the time that had passed, he had gotten better endurance. The first time he had patrolled the border he thought he was gonna die. Now he can still feel worn, but not dead.

"How about you? Talk to anyone interesting?" He took a sip from the water before replying. “Nah, been pretty quiet. Guess none of the packs somewhere are breaking up, huh. Saw a deer one day though, didn’t get it but it was black and cool looking.” Usually the deer were brown. This was also his attempt to make conversation, even if it was rather awkward. “What about you? Anything new and exciting?” He was speaking in a very sarcastic tone, but did truly mean what he was asking. It was just his way of talking. He’d lower his head again from a sip, looking at his brother for him to speak.
