Her little trick worked; As soon as she felt the wolf's teeth let go, her claws retracted and she stepped back as the wolf did. The canine shook herself, catching her breath, and in the split moment she could observe her Veritas could tell there was definitely a different air about her, like a radiating anger. Something told her this wasn't the wolf she'd wished a good battle too earlier.

Suddenly the wolf lunged once more, and as Veritas lifted her left foreleg to get out of the way those obnoxiously sharp teeth closed on her limb just above the wrist. This time, Veritas did pull instinctively, probably causing herself damage if the canine didn't let go; if she did let go, Veritas would limp back, growling, bleeding and visibly fuming.

If she didn't let go, Veritas would throw another strong swat with her right arm, aiming straight for the canine's skull, hoping to make her see stars. At its worst it might give her a minor concussion, at its least it might just make her angrier. If this didn't do anything to make the canine relent she would grow desperate; turning her head to the far right, she'd swing her head like an angry bull to the left and attempt to headbutt her, hoping to get the same effect she'd desired with the swat.

If they canine finally relented, Veritas would hop back, but her eyes would be wide with fear and anger, mouth open and panting like a dog.

((a bit short, but action-packed!))

This definitely wasn't the same wolf that the saber had started out with; Sora changed demeanor completely when it came to her angry states. Did she like it? Absolutely not. Could she help it? Not at the moment. She didn't have a hold on it, that much as clear, and it bothered her to no end. Embarrassment and regret usually followed her actions when she was in a rage, but the maroon female wasn't quite there yet in order to feel all that. It was soon to come, though, depending on what happened in this metaphorical wrestling ring.

There was a sharp pull immediately following Sora's clamp of teeth on Veritas' left limb. Out of instinct Sora braced herself against the pull, much like a pup playing tug of war with their opponent. Sharp teeth bit into the limb more at the force countering her own pull; how much damage had been done Sora couldn't be sure of. She just knew she tasted the blood of her opponent in her mouth. A growl rumbled in her throat, fighting against Veritas for her own limb.

Suddenly a paw came lightning-fast towards her head, and Sora merely flinched at the sight of movement in her peripheral before feeling a sharp smack on her head. It drew her ears back and a yelp escaped her maw as pain burst through her skull; who knew a head could feel so much pain? Sora shook her head angrily, baring her teeth and making a snap towards where she figured the assailing limb might be at the moment. It was more a bite out of reflex more than a true aim to harm. Whether it hit or missed depended on sheer luck at the moment in her own little guessing game as to where the paw was now. If she did manage to snap onto that limb, she would growl and hang on tight with her teeth and jaws; if she missed she would take a few steps back trying to shake off the pain. Unknowingly, the saber was also taking steps backward with her injured limb, but Sora was trying to clear her vision first of being thrown off like that.

And she didn't like it.

A snarl escaped her throat and she finally looked up at the feline, green eyes narrowed in anger, much like the saber was now. Despite the size difference, they were doing quite a number on each other. There was a portion of Sora's head now throbbing in rhythm with her own panting. Interestingly enough that had cleared her anger slightly, but there was still plenty more to deal with, though at the moment Sora was more willing to stand her ground and give herself a few more seconds of recovery. So in the meantime she bared her fangs and snarled at the saber, flickering her tongue through her teeth as she searched for her next opening.

((Sorry for not so much action here, that little head hit did a number on Sora <3))

The pull had been her major mistake. As incensed as the wolf was, it was only natural she would tug back. It tore a nasty wound in her arm; she was afraid the wolf would sever ligaments necessary to flex her fingers, and with that heavy right-handed smack the wolf let go, teeth clicking where the offending paw once was. Both hobbled away form the other. Veritas swept a tongue over her new wound, gingerly flexing her paw to be sure everything still worked and the hand wasn't compromised, and to her relief it was just a very painful wound, everything more or less still intact. A vicious snarl came from the wolf, causing livid jade eyes to snap up at the bloodied canine.

A low, snakelike hiss slithered from her throat and between pale teeth, and Veritas straightened herself, fur bristling, foreleg held carefully away from the dirt. Veritas was surprised Valkyri, wherever she was out there, hadn't given another one of her brilliant suggestions yet.

She'd better be effing thankful she wasn't in the arena right now.

The leg injury would impair her movement, but Veritas was far from finished with the wolf. She would pay her back for that. Feeling rage build up in her gut, she charged, running on her bloodied leg despite the pain, head down so her throat wouldn't be so exposed. Her intention was to grab the wolf by the loose skin of her neck with her front teeth, but the bite would be relatively shallow given the position of her sabers. If the move hit she would swing her head with all the strength in her body and aim to pick the wolf up off her paws and throw her to the side, further knocking whatever sense she had left in her little head. If that was dodged, she'd claw with her left leg again, not giving enough force to jar her like she could with her right but hopefully raking her with her claws once again. If that too missed, she would brace herself with whatever the wolf countered.

Her patience was wearing thin, and she wanted the wolf to submit. If that meant pulling dirty tricks at this point, she didn't care any more. She ached, she hurt, and she was done playing games. All or nothing!

This battle was getting more interesting by the moment.

Now they were two balls of rage, each nursing wounds inflicted upon by the other. Anger simmered underneath her skin, Sora starting to feel that initial wave of pain start to ebb as the moments crawled by. The saber, funnily enough, was also testing her injured limb, and it was perhaps surprising that neither was attacking the other. Though quite frankly, it was because they were both injured and knew better than to run at each other now. It was a simple fact that the risks outweighed the results, and so they each kept to their space. But one thing was for sure; the saber was just as angry as Sora perhaps was still.

They were picking at each other's buttons, pressing them more often with each attack and with each movement. What started as a fight for land without injuries was quickly turning into a risky battle where more than scratches would be obtained. And Sora was just fine with that. She wasn't here to lose or back down. And that hiss emanated from the saber didn't make her flinch. It only kept her baring her fangs, showing her determination to continue this. Her ears flickered as she felt the adrenaline continue to pour through her body. And yet, despite all this anger... there was also a certain amount of admiration for her opponent. The fact that they had both made it this far and that they were holding their own. And to be honest, even she was surprised she was able to hold her own for so long against the saber.

Suddenly the saber charged, Sora's eyes widening slightly in surprise at the speed despite the injured leg. Her admiration only grew, but that was thrust aside as her muscles coiled to retaliate for this next move. Expecting a claw swipe, Sora took a few steps back and flinched, but instead realized too late that it was her teeth that were aiming for her scruff. In that split second, Sora knew she had to do something. So her jaws opened and just as the saber was reaching over the maroon wolf, her own teeth aimed to latch onto her skin right at the collarbone near the throat. Hopefully she would latch on and be able to hold on tight. If successful, it would suddenly impede the saber from throwing her like intended; unless she wanted a chunk of skin to go along with it.

But if she wasn't able to latch on, she'd lift her paws and claw at the saber until thrown in the air and landing heavily on her side. The air was knocked out of her and she gasped to regain it. Sora could only hope she'd be able to take a deep breath fast enough in order to counter whatever the saber had in store for her next.

Teeth clamped onto fur; at first, it was only Veritas' teeth. But when a sudden pinprick pressure was applied to the flesh and skin around the base of her neck, it became clear she was not the only one who had a hold on their opponent.

Her mind hadn't really registered it yet--muscles were already working at their fullest, adrenaline coursing through her veins and her brain functioning in fight or flight mode. There was no regard for the tiny teeth that held her flesh until the canine was thrown, and the implications of her actions became painfully aware. Literally.

Veritas had thrown the wolf with all her might, so the wolf would have certainly sailed through the air at least a few feet, but she would have gone farther were it not for the hold she had on the saber's lower neck. The teeth raking through the saber's skin would slow the wolf's fall depending on how hard she'd been flung, but hopefully the landing would do enough damage for her to make her next move.

Veritas would quickly follow after the wolf, intending to pin her while she was down. If the wolf fought with tooth and nail the saber would use her injured left leg and put just enough weight on the wolf to keep her from moving; if the wolf did not react quick enough, a holding bite to the throat would do. If neither worked and the wolf got up quick enough, Veritas would prepare herself for the wolf's next move.

The neck bite had made her bleed more so than she already was, though the wound was not life-threatening; the wolf might have even taken a chunk out of her. It would inhibit her neck motion in the future, but Veritas was going for the grand finale of the fight; make the wolf surrender and soon. Though the adrenaline kept her going, on top of her other two wounds she was beginning to slow, her range of motion becoming less, the smell of blood clouding her better judgement.

There was still enough fight left in her to supply a pride however. She was far from giving up.

((also, i just realized that cats don't have collar bones?? but it's not really an issue because it makes the area where she'd been bitten clear, so no worries.))

Just as the feel of teeth became obvious on Sora's scruff, she was able to satisfactorily clamp onto her intended target as well. It was with this that she held onto now, hoping it would put a sudden hold on the saber's further attacks (no pun intended). But it appeared as though Veritas hadn't quite realized it yet; or maybe she was throwing caution to the wind, as the maroon wolf had done some moments ago. It was the only way that she would allow herself to be in the position she was in at the moment. Either way she wasn't sure just what the cat was thinking at the moment, but it was soon to be clear what was going to be the result.

At the same time she felt her paws be lifted off the ground, her jaw muscles tightened. It caused the raking through the feline's skin, the taste of blood once again seeping into her mouth. With that metallic taste on her tongue now, Sora was sent off through the air and landed hard on her side and back. Her lungs gasped for air as it was knocked out of her, and her chest heaved with the effort. It was a vulnerable position, she knew that; and it was no doubt the saber knew the same thing.

It was why it came with no surprise when the saber suddenly appeared in her line of vision, just as Sora flung her paws up so she could put them at the cat's chest and claw back at the large cat now hovering over her. She didn't want to be flattened, but she was stuck in that position where her exposed belly was now. This was no move of submission though; it was an intention for countering the sudden move that Veritas put on her. With a snarl she attempted to scratch and bite with her claws and teeth at wherever she could reach.

Without warning a leg pressed down on her already panting chest and pressed down, applying pressure onto the wolf's chest. Ears flattening, she realized what was happening immediately and wriggled her body, attempting to escape the hold. All Sora wanted was a few seconds in which Veritas lost her footing on Sora's chest. If that happened, Sora would be able roll onto her side, take a deep breath and push herself up to try and latch onto Veritas' neck in a hold move more than a killing move. It was a final act of desperation as her tired mind began to realize that this was the last chance. This was the last time she would be able to attempt anything, and she had to give it her all.

If her body wriggles did nothing to Veritas' hold, Sora would attempt to place one or two of her own paws onto the injury and press down on it in order to cause pain and make her let go. If that worked, then the same result applies as the previous move. If neither tries worked, Sora would continue to struggle until enough pressure was applied that forced her to still her movements with her ears flattened. She was not going to give in. Ever.

((so sorry for the wait! school has did a number on my activity.))

The injury to the base of her neck had apparently been worth it, finding the wolf winded from Veritas' throw. She quickly closed in, pinning the wolf down and applying as much pressure as her injured leg could allow while still keeping her wriggling opponent still. The wolf writhed, snarled, scratched and snapped with all the desperation in the world, but the saber kept her hold, keeping her head well away from the wolf's fit while will applying her weight. Then, the wolf pulled another dirty trick.

Rough paw pads found and pressed into the bite wound above her wrist, and out of instinct she removed the weight and recoiled, hissing in pain. The cunning wolf made her move, and in one fluid motion grabbed Veritas' neck.

The world seemed to slow down. She was starting to panic now, holding her injured leg up and feeling the wolf's teeth on her neck. Teeth were not pressing any more than they needed to, and did not break skin, but in Veri's brain she needed to do something, and fast.

The cat decided to use the same move twice. She reared up on her hind legs in an attempt to pull the wolf off of her feet, wrapping her right arm around the wolf's back, pulling her body close. Then, when the wolf was under her, she would lay back down, trying to make the wolf submit this way. If her plan worked, not only would she let go but she would beg for the saber to let up. If the wolf knew what Veritas was planning to do and let go, the cat would attempt another swing with her right paw, to knock the wolf around some more.

She was exhausted, bloodied, and injured. She wanted nothing more than to rest, and this wolf was making it difficult to do so. No matter how this match went, she hoped Valkyri had some means to clean the saber's wounds and help her recover. Whether this fight meant victory for Haven or a meaningless effort on Veritas' behalf, all she wanted to focus on after this was sleep and healing.
