Marriage & Ceremonies

   MARRIAGE

Marriage within Nardir is a sacred, beautiful thing that is celebrated by the entire pack -- the union of loving souls in a lifelong bond, blessed by the alphas of Nardir. As such, to be married to your beloved(s), those wishing to be married must contact the alphas of Nardir (OOCly and ICly) explaining why they should be married, how active they are, etc. Generally, the alpha team will not deny any marriage request unless it is clearly just an OOC move with no IC basis - each request will be handled on a case by case basis, though, and a request is never a guarantee.

A blessed marriage is given a union family name; e.g., Julek and Alana's union name is 'Julana'. This name is decided on by the alphas, but the players are more than welcome to submit their own. This union name is rarely used in RP and is, pretty much, just a 'ship' name.

   Marriage Ceremony

The marriage ceremony is treated like a big celebration by the entire pack. All of Nardir gathers to congratulate, bid well, and present gifts to the newlyweds. A feast is held, and at sundown a large bonfire is lit.

Each ceremony is held in a large meadow. The celebration begins with the alphas giving their blessings to the union and uniting them by Nardiri law - this is held beneath a massive willow tree. Then the other Nardiri gather to give their gifts and wish the newlyweds well. During this time there is a large feast as well, and as the sun falls, the couple lights a large bonfire. The rest of the night mingling, eating, and drinking.

Of course, this is just the basic ceremony - if a couple so wishes, they can 'hire' an Artisan to help them personalize and add on to their wedding ceremony.

     FAMILY

Family plays a big part in Nardir’s culture. After the pack, family is the number one priority a member of Nardir can have. Family is the legacy that a Nardiri leaves behind when they depart from this world, and as such each family member should know the history of their family to be able to pass it on through the generations. A family with a well-known history can use this knowledge to better a marriage; by teaching their children their family histories, they are able to develop their memory skills.

Every union has a name. These are often just the parents’ names merged together, such as Julek and Alana becoming Julana. While this might be the same as their “ship name,” the alphas get to decide on the Union Name, which is what they are officially named at the end of their wedding. The alphas will welcome the couple as a married pair into Nardir and announce the Union Name at that time.

Children

Children are the future of Nardir, those who will one day protect and continue our namesake, upholding the values that Nardiri society lives by. The pack as a whole is expected to protect and teach the children, regardless of blood relation.

Because our youth are so important, it is essential that they understand the pack’s ways and the way that Mother Moon watches over them. They are to know the laws and all aspects of the religion and culture so that they may fit into their places in the pack or bring new skills to the table to etch out new places among their brethren. They should be taught the basic history of Nardir as a whole, the general populace leaving family history lessons to the actual blood relatives of the children.

Capstone Project

     CAPSTONE PROJECTS

This is our spin on the "rite of passage" idea, taking a big bite out of our always growing, learning, expanding culture. Every pup is tasked to come up with something innovative and new, something that the pack doesn't already do. This could be anything from a new specialized rank the pack needs/could benefit from, a new type of accessory, new medicine, a beneficial training routine, anything! It doesn't have to be incredibly complicated or intense - the Capstone project has always been about pushing our youth to do something worthwhile, to show them that they could accomplish great things.

Sprites have the idea of a Capstone Project explained to them at six months of age. All of the youth are gathered together and taught about the project, what is expected of them, etc. The Sprites then have three months to come up with an idea for a project (joint projects are acceptable) and, at the end of the nine-month mark, will present their idea to the public.

If an idea piques the interest of a Nardiri, they have the option to become a "sponsor" for the Sprite and their idea, and are allowed to help the Sprite to see their idea realized. A Sprite can have up to two sponsors.

But what if my project would make new ranks? If the project includes new ranks and is successful and the Sprite in question wants to head up that rank, they may speak with the alphas. If the alphas see that they are fit to take that role, they will be allowed to head it up, with their sponsor acting as a sort of mentor along the way, regardless of what rank the sponsor is.

What are the specifications of being a sponsor? A sponsor is any adult member of Nardir who holds a rank or is in training for a rank. If you're not sure you're eligible to be a sponsor, ask an alpha and they'll let you know.

I have more questions! Feel free to message any of the alphas with your questions!
